Welcoming Florence Stadelmann to the AICell Lab

We are delighted to welcome Florence Stadelmann to the AICell Lab as a research intern. Florence is an M.Sc. student in Molecular Biotechnology at Uppsala University, and she joins us drawn by exactly the mix that defines the lab: bioinformatics, scientific automation, and data-driven biology.

What Florence will work on

Florence will focus on the operation and validation of our automated live-cell imaging platform — the kind of work that keeps a self-driving lab honest. Day to day, that means running scheduled multi-day imaging experiments, validating the platform’s control software through fault testing and automated test scripts, and supporting quantitative bioimage analysis. It’s a role right at the seam between the wet bench and the code that runs it — where reliable automation turns tedious, repetitive routines into reproducible data.

In her own words

We asked Florence a few questions as she settles in.

Q: What excites you most about working with lab automation?

“Honestly, having a robot arm run the lab work is just insanely cool. I’ve always been curious about automating the repetitive lab bench routines, so you can skip the tedious parts and focus entirely on the data analysis and problem-solving.”

Q: What are you most looking forward to during your internship?

“I’m mostly super hyped to experience what it’s actually like working inside an active research group — seeing the day-to-day collaboration up close and learning how the team tackles complex research roadblocks in real time.”

Q: What drew you to molecular biotechnology and data science?

“Scientific automation and data science always fascinated me even more than traditional wet lab biology. I wanted an education where I could apply data science directly to real-world challenges, and molecular biotech felt like the perfect route — especially since the pharma and biotech space is so exciting right now.”

Q: A fun fact about you?

“I used to compete for the Swedish National Team in Taekwondo (ITF) back in 2019!” 🥋
