Simin Zhang

Postdoctoral Researcher

Hello, I’m Simin! I’m a medical doctor and recently graduated PhD in Oncology from Karolinska Institutet.

My background combines clinical medicine and biomedical research. After completing my medical training, I underwent three years of ophthalmology specialty training and worked on a research project focusing on anti-scarring strategies in ocular surgery. This experience first introduced me to scientific research and sparked my curiosity about the logic and creativity behind it.

In October 2020, I moved to Sweden to pursue my PhD at Karolinska Institutet, where my research focused on ocular tumors. During this time, I developed a deeper appreciation for scientific reasoning and interdisciplinary approaches in biomedical science.

Alongside my PhD work, I collaborated with peers to design an AI-controlled smart anti-depression lamp aimed at helping regulate human emotions. This experience sparked my interest in artificial intelligence and its potential applications in healthcare. At AICell Lab, I’m excited to combine my medical and biological background with AI and explore innovative ways artificial intelligence can advance life science research.
